    Key Duties/Responsibilities

    PURPOSE/JOB SUMMARY:

    Manages all surface-related land functions in support of multi-rig drilling programs and production activities in Texas and New Mexico. Conducts title research and performs title curative as it relates to surface ownership. Interprets, executes and maintains Apache’s surface contracts to ensure compliance with obligations. Demonstrates proficiency in all aspects of surface land management and negotiation. Assists with complaints, grievance resolutions and other surface owner disputes and makes recommendations regarding damage claims settlements. Proactive in addressing community and stakeholder issues.

     

    Specific Responsibilities:

    The Sr. Surface Landman, for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache’s [Position Family] team at the company’s [Location], office reporting to the [Title of Hiring Manager]. 

     

    This role will be primarily responsible for the following:

     

    • Acquires drill sites, easements, surface leases, access roads, frac pits, water use and other rights needed for drilling and production activities.
    • Acquires fee property
    • Manages surveyors and conducts pre-construction on-site evaluations
    • Negotiates and drafts complex surface agreements
    • Negotiates damage settlements
    • Serves as company liaison with landowners, local, county, state and federal regulatory agencies
    • Supports field operations personnel with landowner issues related to ongoing operations
    • Represents the Company in handling complaints, arbitrating disputes or resolving grievances that may arise during negotiations with landowners and business activities with regulatory agencies
    • Directs the efforts of contract personnel and mentors less-experienced personnel

    Job Qualifications

    Professional Qualifications & Experience:

    The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

     

    • 4-year degree in Law, Petroleum Land Management, Energy Management, Energy Commerce or other relevant degree
    • AAPL membership required; RPL or CPL preferred
    • Minimum of 7 years of in-house surface land experience with a major and/or large independent oil & gas company
    • Ability to speak and understand oilfield terminology
    • Understanding of land and legal documents
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong negotiation and conflict-management skills
    • Working knowledge of current rules and regulations for Texas and New Mexico
