    The IT Database Supervisor will be responsible for leading Apache’s database administration team of approximately 3 employees located in Houston, Texas. This position requires a motivated individual with strong technical ability, leadership, customer relationship management, and communication skills, who excels at driving delivery. Additionally, the candidate will:

    • Oversee the administration of the global database and Hadoop environments ensuring a secure, highly available, and highly performant environment;
    • Analyze the ongoing database needs of the organization and proactively develop effective short-term and long-term strategies;
    • Maintains and enhances database standards, controls, procedures, and documentation;
    • Serve as the escalation point for all database related issues and root cause analysis;
    • Effectively manage and prioritize team’s tasks in a fast-paced, dynamic environment to ensure project deliverables are on time.

     

    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Overall management, monitoring and maintenance of global database and Hadoop ecosystems;
    • Establish policies and procedures related to data security and integrity and monitor and limit database access appropriately;
    • Ensure appropriate SOX controls and reporting are in place and adhered to;
    • Security administration per company standards and best practices including user provisioning utilizing role based, least privilege access;
    • Oversee the design, maintenance and implementation of systems utilized to manage the database environment;
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure project success while strictly adhering to best practices and standards;
    • Provide leadership, training, and ongoing mentorship for database administration team;
    • Champion efforts to further automate administration processes and procedures;
    • Implementation and maintenance of proactive monitoring and alerting;
    •  Ensure systems are upgraded and patched in a timely basis to ensure security, system stability, and compliance;
    • Implementation and administration of effective backup and recovery solutions;
    • Proactive capacity monitoring and short and long-term capacity planning;
    • Work closely with application teams to ensure appropriate database design and implementation of application related database code;
    • Implementation of backup and data retention policies and procedures as required;
    • Participate in the architecture and design of database related disaster recovery related solution that meet the company’s RPO and RTO requirements.

    Job Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field;
    • 10 years of experience in Database Administration;
    • 2 years of experience leading database administration teams.
    • Core competency:
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills;
      • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment;
      • Experience managing vendor relationships;
      • Skills in diagnosing and solving complex technical and non-technical problems as well as effectively communicating to stakeholders at all levels of the company;
      • Excellent knowledge of operating system process management and resource scheduling;
      • Strong understanding of SQL and experience tuning queries, processes, and scheduled tasks;
      • Solid understanding of clustering, storage, and networking principles.
    • Core database technologies:
      • Oracle Enterprise 10.X/11.X/12.X;
      • Oracle Linux/Red Hat 6 and 7;
      • Oracle RAC, ASM, Grid Infrastructure;
      • Oracle Data Guard;
      • Oracle Cloud Control 12c/13c;
      • SQL Server 2012/2014/2016;
      • SQL Server SSIS/SSRS/SSAS.
    • Tool experience:
      • Idera SQL Diagnostic Manager;
      • Database backup and recovery tools (RMAN, DataPump, SQL backup).

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Hadoop administration experience;
    • Experience managing SAP databases;
    • Working knowledge of cloud technologies (Azure, AWS);
    • Experience with Dell/EMC Data Domain/Avamar/ddboost;
    • Certification in relevant technologies (Oracle, SQL Server, Hadoop).
