    Key Duties/Responsibilities

    This position is responsible for providing support for the life cycle of a horizontal well from prognosis, well path planning, drilling operations, and active geosteering, through to post completion data integration. This is an operations role with 24/7 responsibilities while drilling.  The individual will be the team lead for this group and will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, utilizes knowledge to enhance completions and overall well results.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Developing an accurate geological prognosis for each well within the assigned team.
    • Ensuring all regulatory guidelines are adhered to.
    • Working with the subsurface team to develop a horizontal well target and drilling window.
    • Working with the drilling group to obtain pre-drill well path surveys.
    • Provide support for well site Geological Services as required.
    • Track each well and assume geosteering responsibility from kick-off point through to TD.
    • Actively monitor and steer each well on a 24/7 basis.
    • Attend drilling operations meetings daily and present morning updates to the operations group.
    • Report progress 3X / day and generate reports as per Apache guidelines.
    • Communicate any significant events as per operations protocols.
    • Compile an archival report for each well upon reaching TD and share it with the subsurface team.

    Job Qualifications

    EDUCATION:       

    • BS in Geology, Geophysics, or Engineering, and relevant experience required
    • Master’s degree preferred

     

    EXPERIENCE:       

    • A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant E&P company experience, as an Operations/Geosteering geologist
    • Experience in the Permian Basin preferred
    • Experience working effectively in integrated teams with the ability to interact effectively with geoscientists and drilling, operations, and reservoir engineers
    • Familiarity with directional drilling and well site operations is required.
    • The candidate should have strong geoscience workstation and software skills, including experience and proficiency with commercial geosteering software. Apache uses proprietary software and an in-house workflow to actively steer wells.  Training will be provided.
    • Strong skills with Excel is also desired.
    • Must be able to work under pressure and provide input in short project time lines
