    Key Duties/Responsibilities

    The Manager of Media and Public Relations will lead the daily media relations and public relations efforts for Apache and serve as the primary company spokesperson. The role will be responsible for furthering the external reputation of Apache by developing strategies for, making pitches to, and building relationships with key media outlets and channels and implementing strategies to leverage the expertise of Apache staff. Job title will be commensurate with appropriate years of experience and knowledge.



    • Develop an ongoing media and public relations strategic plan for the corporate office and operating areas in cooperation with local communications staff.
    • Contribute to the development of the corporate narrative, key messages, and the company's position on current and emerging issues in alignment with Apache's corporate values and business objectives.
    • Write, edit and distribute media releases, alerts and pitches to target media markets to promote awareness around company priorities. Maintain external editorial calendar for planned Apache media.
    • Contribute to financial communications efforts for quarterly earnings. Assist investor relations team with writing & communicating earnings results, including developing the earnings release and related narratives.
    • Manage and respond to incoming media requests, ensuring message consistency.
    • Effectively monitor and measure Apache's mentions in all external media, utilizing a clip summary service to distribute mentions to internal audiences.
    • Build new local and national media relationships while maintaining established media partnerships. Accurately and efficiently maintain media contact, placement and messaging database.
    • Liaise with and manage external PR firms and firm projects as needed.
    • Serve as communications liaison to industry trade associations; speak in public on behalf of Apache as needed.
    • Develop and maintain a schedule of upcoming staff speaking engagements and prepare materials. Conduct media trainings and draft briefing slides, speeches, and/or talking points for leadership.
    • Write and maintain accurate biographical information for Apache leadership and an updated annual fact sheet and boilerplates for the company for use in press releases and external collateral material.
    • Support external communications efforts of operating regions, providing assistance, creating materials, holding trainings and supporting local communications professionals in their earned media activities and crisis communications.
    • Coordinate with creative team to ensure external uses of brand and logo meet brand standards and support public relations goals.
    • Oversee company's social media strategy and content generation. Utilize social and digital media tactics to promote overall external relations strategy
    • Work with digital team and vendors to maintain the company website -- specifically providing proper information for press room.
    • Serve as media liaison for crisis communications and provide support to the vice president of Public Affairs and other key leaders at Apache.
    • Work with the vice president of Public Affairs to maintain the Crisis Communications Plan.
    • Work with internal communications team to provide updated content for their needs.

    Job Qualifications


    • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Journalism or related field.
    • Minimum of 10+ years related experience in public & media relations.
    • Extensive knowledge of media relations and strong media relationships.
    • Extensive understanding of the upstream oil and gas industry.
    • Highly proficient in AP style writing, experience with print & social media channels
    • Ability to work under pressure and remain flexible as priorities change, as well as the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing and in front of groups.
    • Strong sense of diplomacy and demonstrated success in developing strong collaborative relationships with C-suite executives, organizational peers, outside colleagues. Requires ability to relate positively, influentially, and sensitively to a broad spectrum of persons in a variety of multitiered relationships and settings.
    • Demonstrated strong analytical skills, including an ability to synthesize large amounts of information and to focus quickly on the essence of an issue; high level of organization and strong commitment to producing measurable results within deadlines.
    • Ability to travel to various geographic locations, both domestic and international, and some overnight stays. Requires ability to obtain and maintain the necessary documentation to travel internationally.
    • Proficient working knowledge and ability to accurately and timely operate and perform computer related tasks with specific equipment and software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
    • Ability to work under minimal supervision; exercise sound judgment and confidentiality.
